Junior Consultant July 04,2008 - TransGrid RFI IEC61850 ToolsTransGrid, the largest transmission utility in Australia, have identified the potential to implement IEC 61850 in its future substation design solutions. IEC 61850 is based on a number of specific files containing the complete substation definition as a fundamental change to conventional engineering processes. These files are managed using software tools for specifying, designing, engineering and commissioning of substation automation systems.
TransGrid are therefore seeking to identify the types and functionality of IEC 61850 based engineering tools currently available on the market in order that they may establish their requirements for use of and specification of these tools. UTInnovation and Maunsell have been authorized by TransGrid (refer authorization letter) to undertake a Request for Information and market assessment on TransGrid’s behalf.
